Laser Cut, Cardboard Type Installation

This is beautiful, and looks like a real labour of love. FooFarah’s Tumblr charts the whole process of her thesis creation.

Typographic Trees

Gordon Young is an artist focussing on art for public spaces and has produced a number of typographic installations. For a library in Crawley, UK he has created a ‘forest’ of oak pillars positioned throughout the building. Each of the 14 solid oak columns reflect the different subjects from the gothic to the romantic within the library.
Created in collaboration with: Why Not Associates (Typography), Russell Coleman (Implementation).

Wim Crouwel, Number 5Manchester based design agency Truth have commissioned a commemorative birthday poster each year since forming. In this, their 5th year, they asked “design legend and Dutch superhero” Wim Crouwel to design a number 5. He kindly agreed to donate his time and produced this for them.It certainly conforms to the compositional grid system that he developed while at the Stedelijk Museum (and earned him the nickname ‘Gridnik’)
Each poster is part of a limited edition of 200 and will be given to ‘Friends of Truth’.

Japanese Typography

Japanese Typography: Pepper Shop. Action type. 1994.

It’s quite weird to think about typography in other languages that use different characters and symbols. Even more weird however, I still can appreciate this Japanese piece’s beauty, Probably more than if I could speak Japanese.

Wood Poster | Under The Sycamore
This particular saying is very important to me. I’ve talked about my anxiety/depression before - I’m very open about it, t’s not a secret! When it hits hard, it can feel like you are stuck in a loop and then one problem becomes another one. It’s important to remember that ‘this too shall pass’. Sometimes you have to weather the storm to come out the other side. I adore the simplicity of this ‘poster’ and the fact that it feels earthy and pure! Of course, you don’t need to use this saying, but I have to say that you might find it can help you too!

This is a font I have created, I have printed it with a printing press my Grandad made me, although it isn’t very clear as I didn’t use any felt so its come out a bit grainy. I have been told the font looks like it belongs to the 2012 Olympics which doesn’t bother me so much as I really like the designs and advertising for it. Its called KISS which is short for keep it simple stupid I didn’t want to create something over complicated I wanted it to be accessible to everyone so its more of a puzzle alphabet by piecing letters together where they fit and look like the appropriate letter. I had a lot of fun making this piece and it will be the center point to my degree show as I will be doing live printing or embossing sessions with it.
